Part One In The Summer Freedom Series
“There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” John 15:13
No scripture is more fitting on this occasion than this, as we remember the brave men and women who gave their lives fighting for our country. I can’t help but remember members of my family who served this great nation. From my husband’s ancestor who fought in the American Revolution to my immigrant ancestors who from their arrival have had a member from each generation serve in the US Army, we have been blessed not to have lost any family members to war.
But it’s not just dying for one’s country that marks this weekend’s celebration. No, we also remember and thank all who have stood up, waved their hand and said, “I will stay the watch. I will fight for freedom cause.” Each soldier has been willing to lay down his life, and we are so grateful. Even more so to those who have paid the ultimate price.
When we read John 15:13 we are also reminded of how Jesus laid His life down for his friends and for all mankind. His blood was shed so that we can have true freedom forever. The Zealots wanted Him to put down the Roman army, but no, Jesus had another war to wage…

A man can be as great as he wants to be. If you believe in yourself and have the courage, the determination, the dedication, the competitive drive and if you are willing to sacrifice the little things in life and pay the price for the things that are worthwhile, it can be done.
