Time For Choosing

This is an excerpt from Ronald Reagan’s Republican National Convention speech in 1964. Reagan speaks of the dangers of big government, high taxation, and becoming a welfare state (aka…the “war on poverty”). He addresses foreign policy issues including the risk of appeasement and the only true way to maintain peace -through strength. How appropriate this speech is for today and we shouldn’t be surprised, as there is “nothing new under the sun.”

The Bible says “choose this day who you will serve.” And of course our response should be the Lord. Always the Lord first. I can’t help but wonder if we are in this situation, yet again, because we chose to serve mammon instead of God. If we had been less concerned with getting ahead and more concerned with making disciples of all…If we spoke out in Spirit and in truth instead of taking the path of least resistance…would we be here today? The time has come to make a choice, my friend. A choice to stop focusing on self and self-interest. A choice to get off the couch and stand for our liberties and our children’s liberties. A choice to draw our own line in the sand and say “Not on my watch!”

What will you choose?

Be blessed,

Maureen :-)
P.S. You can listen to the entire speech and download the text from the Reagan Library.
