Writing for pay can be a very appealing alternative for the Christian work at home mom or dad. There are several options for you if this sounds appealing. While you won’t strike it rich overnight with writing, the mid-long term potential can be very good. And this is something you can derive great satisfaction from, especially if you are writing about your interests.
Articles
- Revenue Sharing/Paid Per View Article Sites – These can be a great way to develop a residual income with writing. These sites pay for page views to your articles or split the ad revenue with you. While it will take you longer to get paid, your revenue can grow with time as traffic and page views increase. With repertoires of over 300 articles and six to twelve months time, some WAHM’s are make $1,000 residual per month. Of course they write well , but have also optimized their articles for the search engines and promote their article hubs through social networking. In addition to the potential revenue, one extra benefit of posting articles on these sites is the backlinks to your own website and the possibility of incorporating affiliate products in the resource areas, which of course can create more income for you.
- Paid Per Post/Article – These sites will pay you upfront for unique articles. Pay can be anywhere from $5-$45, depending on the site, length of article, and niche demand. Be sure to look at copyright information. Some sites retain exclusivity for 30-90 days and some own the rights to the article. Also take a look at submission guidelines. Some will require you to submit a query and receive approval first, while in other cases you will need to write the full article before acceptance.

Blogging
- Pay Per Post – some blog owners will pay $3-$5 for someone to write a post on their blog.
- Niche Blogging – This more of a business you create for yourself. Basically, you will need to create your own niche blogs based on your interests and keyword research. You will need to do Internet marketing and search engine optimization (SEO) to generate traffic to your site, of course. Your revenue will come from Google adsense (ads Google places on your site) and affiliate products you recommend to your readers. Some niche bloggers even create their own information products to sell as well. The long term income potential for this type of writing can be very good. Some “professional” niche bloggers have made a mid 4 figures per month after 6-8 months. Those that accomplish this frequently have 10-20 blogs earning them $10-$20 per day. Another way to make money from niche blogging is to develop the blog, create rankings and documented income, then sell or flip the blog. This will take the development of skill and an investment in the learning process.

Squidoo
Over the last few years, this has been my favorite Web 2.0 Article site. I’ve put it in its own category because it is a mix of the above methods. Squidoo is free to start and the web pages are called lenses. You can post articles and recommend products. If suited to your lens, you can also recommend affiliate products, just be careful not to make it a big sales pitch. (Squidoo is cracking down on spammy lenses ;-)) Squidoo splits the Adsense, Amazon, and Ebay revenue with you. An additional way to make money is in selling lenses. The going rate for a well done, fully optimized lens in a popular niche starts at $150.
